It’s all about balance these days;
- Life/Work
- Work/Family
- Family/Hobbies
- Hobbies/Partner
- Partner/Kids
- Kids/Me-Time
- Me Time/Exercise
Where does it all end? How much do we need to do and what are we trying to prove? Finding your balance is different to me finding mine. Working out what are your priorities and what makes you happy.
Then there are the days where I feel like I’m on the eternal hampster wheel of life going around and around and not getting anywhere.
From Calm to Custard
There are days where I have it all sorted and I literally float through the day in complete control of my destiny and all around me – this is the calm
Then there are the days where I feel like I’m on the eternal hampster wheel of life going around and around and not getting anywhere. At the same time I’m scared of stopping as I know I will either be flung off or just sit there on the wheel while it continues to go around. This is Custard
Which one are you? Calm or Custard or like me go from one to the other.
How do we find that balance that we are striving for?
Take time out to prepare and plan each day – remember the 5 P’s “Proper Preparation, Prevents Piss Poor Performance”
Here are a few tips that help me to get off that Hampster wheel and take control:
#1 Take time out to prepare and plan each day – remember the 5 P’s “proper preparation, prevents piss poor performance”
#2 Be realistic about how much you can fit into your day – I am always taking on more than I can handle and have a hard time saying no.
#3 List the things that need to be done everyday, I call it damage control – washing, dishes, beds – this way you will feel more organised
#4 Meal Plan – something I struggle with and still find difficult so I will keep you posted when I find this a natural thing to do
#5 Make sure all your office, computer, phone work is done between school hours. Something I have to be mindful of working from home. This way when the kids are home it is all about them.
